6 Ways To Keep Cool In The Summer Heat

Summer is a glorious time of year when many people can enjoy basking in warm weather and bright sunny days. But even those who eagerly await summer can agree that extreme heat can be downright miserable at times.

Things seem normal until you are forced to stay indoors. The heat and sweat you produce when in the direct path of the sun can easily lead to dehydration. Add all of this together and you may feel extremely lethargic.

Here are some key tips if you want to beat the heat and stay cool during the summer.

  • Wear Loose Clothing

Wearing darkly colored and tightly fitting clothing can make you much sweatier. Dark colors tend to absorb more wavelengths of light whereas tight clothing will cling uncomfortably to your body during extreme heat.

Your best bet is opting for loose, cotton clothing that is both breathable and light rather than synthetic materials. Cotton is a natural fiber which means it’ll absorb moisture as you sweat, cooling you down more efficiently than other materials. The lighter the color, the less heat your outfit will be trapping!

Plus, who doesn’t love buying a brand new summer wardrobe?

  • Find Air Conditioning

If the summer heat is especially draining, your best bet is to stay inside where you have access to air conditioning. If you don’t own any air conditioning you should consider purchasing the Best Delonghi Air Conditioner for your home.

If your home does not have an air conditioning system then you should pay a visit to your local library or shopping mall instead. Even a few hours in an air-conditioned environment will help your body to stay cool even as you head back out into the direct heat of the sun.

Do whatever you can to keep cool in soaring summer temperatures!

  • Stay Hydrated

Keeping yourself hydrated is always important, especially on hot summer days. In fact, on such days, it’s a way of surviving the otherwise overwhelming heat.

Drinking plenty of fluids will help you to maintain the overall amount of water in your body which is easily lost due to sweat in the summer heat. If you can’t drink water by itself, feel free to add hydrating fruits to your water bottle, or opt for coconut water or juice instead.

  • Eat Light Meals

Eating heavy meals in extreme summer temperatures can generate excess heat in your body. This will make you feel doubly as uncomfortable as you would otherwise be, especially if you aren’t used to these conditions.

Your body works hard after you ingest a large meal to digest and metabolize all of the food that you’ve just eaten. Throughout this process, your core body temperature will increase to a point where you feel constantly lethargic and sweaty.

By eating light meals you won’t have to put your body through this unnecessary stress. Make sure to cut down on the amount of salty food and processed foods that you eat.

  • Have A Lukewarm Shower

In the summer heat, you might be tempted to take a cold shower. After all, the freezing temperatures will bring down your body temperature and will even wake you up if you’re feeling a bit tired. Right?

This isn’t entirely true! Though it might temporarily cool you down, there are reports that this could make you feel even hotter as your body has to double its efforts to regulate your temperature after your shower.

You should have a lukewarm shower instead. It has an immediate cooling effect on your bloodstream which will make the summer heat more bearable.

  • Take A Dip In A Pool

One of the most efficient ways of keeping cool in the summer heat is jumping straight into a pool. Fully submerging yourself in cold water is bound to immediately cool you off!

The best part about swimming is that it allows you to be active without feeling the burning heat of the sun, or the uncomfortableness of sweating.

But remember to wear sunscreen! Just because you are feeling cool and relaxed in the water of your pool, it doesn’t mean that the sun isn’t shining directly onto your skin.

Depending on where you live, the summer heat can cause a huge disruption in your day-to-day life. But as long as you remain in a shady and air-conditioned environment, have plenty of fluids to drink, and opt for looser clothing that flows with your body, you’ll be feeling cool in no time at all!
