Parquet Flooring for Luxurious Interiors: How to Choose the Right Designs

The capital city of NSW, Sydney, is home to many millionaires. According to recent data, 1.3% of Sydney’s population has $US 1 million or more in assets. Parquet Flooring is one of the popular choices for such house owners in Sydney who desire luxurious interiors. The designers have limitless options to decide the design, patterns, types, and texture of hardwood.

The pattern of the parquet flooring Sydney marks the aesthetic appeal of your house. Here are some tips for choosing the right designs for your home.

Types of Parquet Patterns

One of the most extraordinary things about parquet flooring is the infinite number of patterns you get to choose from. Some of the main patterns that are worth mentioning are:

  • Chevron

This pattern is ideal for small rooms. It involves installing parquet blocks parallel to the wall. You can create complex designs by using engineered oak parquet, which gives the flooring a contemporary look. You can achieve variations in design through different angles like 30° and 45° and installing blocks that are 135mm or wider.

  • Herringbone

The most popular woods used for wooden flooring in Sydney homes are Oak and Maple. Oak is more preferred for parquet flooring in Sydney homes as it is denser than maple. The Oak Herringbone flooring is the most cost-effective and simplest design, with minimal cuts and the least wastage. There are several options in Herringbone patterns.

  • Double herringbone pattern – two pieces are laid together
  • Large herringbone pattern – has a larger size: 120 to 150mm wide
  • Narrow herringbone pattern – has smaller size: 65 to 70 mm
  • Oversized herringbone pattern – has the largest size: 80 to 240mm wide.
  • Inlaid Parquet

According to experts, hardwood flooring is suitable for the Sydney climate, where the annual humidity percentage is 57.0%.

The Inlaid pattern involves laying multiple shapes together to create a pattern. You can opt for simple patterns like Basketweave flooring or Mansion weave. In inlaid style, the size and the shapes of the parquet blocks can change the look of your floor.

Layout of the Parquet Flooring

Sydney has a flourishing timber industry, and parquetry is a popular style of flooring here. Australia has many native timbers like Spotted Gum and Blackbutt that are strong and durable and last for many years.

Some of the standard layouts of parquet flooring are no border, 1 line border, and 2 line border. According to the experts, bordering your parquet flooring can affect its overall look. If you opt for no border, the pattern will continue to the next room, and it is more likely to extend past the wall line.

There are many ways to create borders, like installing a contrasting colour strip such as bronze or brass. Alternatively, you can also use a different strip of wood, like a Wenge inset strip.

Direction of Parquet

When you follow a herringbone or chevron pattern, the direction of the parquet flooring is towards the windows or a fireplace. You can change the direction of the parquet between rooms to achieve a different look for each room.

The room’s focal point should be considered while laying the parquet, and you can use it as a starting point.

Overlay, Engineered, or Block Parquet

There are different types of parquet which include block, engineered, and overlay parquet.

  • Block Parquet is made of solid wood and does not have a tongue or groove profile. Its thickness is around 18 to 20 mm.
  • Overlay parquet uses battens of timber, and its thickness range is 8 to 10mm. You can make the floor attractive by choosing rare cuts of timber like rift sawn oak or quarter sawn.
  • Engineered parquet is the most stable option, and it does not need any finishing after installation. Engineered parquet offers infinite options as tools and machines allow for complex finishes and colours.
