What Mattress Works Best for Your Adjustable Bed

One of the perks of getting old (ha!) is that we need more sleep. It seems that 15% of men and 35% of women need half an hour for falling asleep.

The adjustable bed can change it all for you, but it has to have the right mattress for helping you fall and stay asleep until morning.

Apart from the benefits of sleeping, the adjustable bed presents multiple advantages. It’s great for watching TV or read a book while making it easier for you to get in/out of it. The right mattress for the adjustable bed improves your posture and circulation, which all count for your well-being.

How to choose the best mattress for your adjustable bed?

It’s useless to get an adjustable bed if you’re not willing to pay for the right mattress too. The market gives you numerous choices, which may overwhelm you. To make the selection process run friendly and comfortable, here’s what you should pay attention to when choosing the mattress for your adjustable bed:

  • Size

You should see the dimensions and thickness of the mattress. It’s challenging to adjust the mattress to the bed when it’s very thick, so keep it in mind when shopping.

A mattress that is too thin doesn’t work either, since you may not obtain the comfort you’re looking for.

10-15in for thickness is a good range most of the time. If you plan to split the mattress, you should stick with a Twin XL mattress. More often than not, you should go with standard size for the mattress so that it fits your adjustable bed just fine.

  • Flexibility

Even though comfort is fundamental for a bed, you don’t want to sacrifice flexibility either. It has to allow natural movement with the bed’s frame. It’s why the foam (latex or memory foam) mattresses make the ideal choice for the adjustable bed frames.

Lately, more and more clients are also satisfied with airbeds. On the other hand, innerspring mattresses are the least flexible, due to their build. It doesn’t mean that you cannot find innerspring mattresses that also work with the adjustable bed.

  • Lifespan

You don’t buy a bed too often, which means you’re going to have it for quite some time in your life. Therefore, you should also get a mattress that takes the use for many years to come.

Find the mattresses that are made with high-quality materials, with minimum risk for wear and tear. It’s not a bad thing to get one that also comes with a warranty, which means that the manufacturer trusts its quality.

Always read the terms and conditions from your mattress, since not all models are suitable for an adjustable bed.

What type of mattresses fit the adjustable bed the best?

It’s all clear for everyone that we need good sleep, especially when aging. It’s also pretty obvious that using the right bed and mattress are going to help us get a restful sleep too. Apart from versatility, adjustable beds are also great for bringing relief in sleep-related conditions (sleep apnea, snoring, asthma, reflux, and heartburn).

Getting an adjustable bed isn’t enough for improving your sleep. You also need the best mattress for obtaining the best sleep ever, every single night.

Memory foam adjustable mattress

The memory foam mattress is made with multiple layers of different density foam. It conforms to the shape of your body, supporting your weight evenly.

Some other types of mattresses out there may lead to pressure points, but that’s not going to be a problem with the memory foam mattress. More often than not, the memory foam mattress is the no.1 choice for the adjustable bed.

You may find good quality memory foam mattresses for prices ranging between $600 and $1,200. Their main downside is the risk of retaining heat, which is a good thing if you like to sleep warm. If not, you may look for a memory foam mattress that also includes cooling features- it’s quite a standard model, anyway!

Latex mattress

The latex mattress resembles the memory foam mattress in terms of build. However, it has a slimmer profile than the memory foam type, which makes it even easier to work with an adjustable bed.

The right latex mattress is going to bounce back into shape faster than the memory foam when you leave the bed. But it comes with a twist, with the latex mattress being more rigid than the memory foam mattress.

Anyone dealing with allergies to harsh chemicals should buy a latex mattress. If you don’t know it by now, latex is made of natural substances from rubber trees, so it has a minor risk for flaring up your allergies.

You can find a latex mattress for prices between $1,500 and $2,500.

Air mattress

Despite its name, the air mattress isn’t floating in any way. It looks just like any other mattress, but it’s made with multiple air chambers and not springs or foams. You may also adjust the level of comfort by lowering/increasing the air pressure.

One thing to remember is to check if the air mattress is designed for an adjustable bed. An air mattress with several chambers is suitable for an adjustable bed because it’s more flexible than one that has just a single air chamber.

The prices for the air mattress go from as little as $1,500 to as high as $2,500.

Innerspring mattresses

In all fairness, the innerspring mattress is one of the most common and well-known type of beds that we all know about. It’s made up of a group of springs with a padded top.

It’s the firmest mattress, which means it’s not going to do well with an adjustable bed. The technology has improved though, so the innerspring mattresses include fewer coils than in the past. The detail makes them more flexible, allowing them to work with the adjustable bed as well.

Remember that not all innerspring mattresses work with the adjustable beds. Check the label on your mattress to see if it works or not.

With prices ranging between $700 and $1,200, the innerspring mattresses are the most affordable option for the adjustable beds. But they’re also the least appropriate, so choose wisely.

It wouldn’t hurt to read the last tip as well

With the diversity of models in terms of mattresses and bed, you don’t have an excuse for not finding the right models for your needs.

However, you should always think twice when placing the order for either of them since the right models may serve you for the rest of your life. Isn’t that amazing?
