2 or 4 Yard Dumpster

This is generally the smallest option available. These dumpsters are 6 feet long and 3 feet wide, so they’re great for narrow alleys. This is the size you’ll see outside small business buildings or office buildings.

It’s also good for small roofing projects. For example, plummersdisposal.com says this size can handle debris from a 1,500 square foot single shingle roof.

15 Yard Dumpster

A 15 yard dumpster is about 16 feet long and 8 feet wide. They’re ideal for medium-sized clean ups of an attic, basement, or garage.

It can also handle the debris from a garden shed or re-siding a small house. You can also use this size for up to 2,200 square feet of roof debris.

20 Yard Dumpster

This size is ideal for large clean up projects, like emptying a garage or attic or removing carpet from a large house. It can also handle the debris from a large 400 square feet deck tear-out and roof debris from a large home.

If you use this size to tear out concrete, know that you can only fill it 2/3 of the way full.

30 Yard Dumpster

For the majority of home projects, this is the largest size you’ll ever need. You may need this size for a very large clean out, such as clearing out the home of a deceased family member.

These dumpsters are about 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 6 feet deep. They can hold large items and lots of construction debris.

It’s also a good size for large renovation projects. Think new home construction or siding replacement for a large house. It can even handle the debris from a 2-car garage tear-down.
