Top Ways to Easily Get Rid of Garbage

There are a lot of things that we use and consume every day that end up in landfills. The pile of garbage collected everyday decomposes at different rates. For example, rubber-made slippers take about seventy years, while a banana peel takes about thirty days, and a single-use plastic such as the straw, lid, and plastic bag takes up to four hundred years to decompose. Imagine these items will still linger in this world even after the human race.

However, many local groups and organizations are trying their best to find a solution and maximize the use of these items so that they will not end up in landfills right away. One popular campaign that everybody knows about is the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle method. Garbage poses a threat not just to our health but also to our environment. It pollutes air and water, killing hundreds of marine life and other species. Here are some of the top ways to get rid of garbage easily.

Donate Reusable Items

The first thing you have to do to get rid of garbage easily is to sort your trash into different types of bins depending on their use. This can be done and set up within five minutes. Put a box or a trash bin in your kitchen so items can be sorted and filtered as they are thrown away. Now that you have filtered things out, you can donate the items that other people can still use. Make sure that what you are throwing are items that no longer serve their purpose. You may also hold a garage if you want to get some cash out of your old things. You know what often people say, another man’s trash is another man’s happiness.

Dumpster Rental

Once you are done filtering your items, collect all garbage trash into a trash bag and put it into a garbage bin. Do not forget to seal it properly so stray animals, especially cats, won’t be able to open it and litter it around your area. If you have big furniture or any large items, you should rent a dumpster. It is designed for people who are engaging in yard projects or want to dispose of their old stuff that is too big and consuming space in their house. Remember that the cost of renting a dumpster varies depending on the size you want to rent. According to experts, not all dumpsters are built alike. So do your research before renting one.

Avoid Single-Use Items

If you want to get rid of your garbage, then do not contribute to the waste cycle. You can start by avoiding items like plastic cutlery, paper plates, paper cups, and food items with pre-packaged plastics like salads and sandwiches. Instead, use reusable options. Some companies started to sell wooden spoons, knives, and forks as well as metal straws. If you are taking out a drink from fast-food chains, it is best if you can have it without a lid or ask the server if they could transfer it to your tumbler. Remember that these things can be replaced by saying no to plastics.

Composting

We cannot deny the fact that all leftover foods will go directly to our respective garbage bin after a meal. Good thing there are ways to turn leftover foods into something beneficial to others. This is by composting.

To give you a better understanding of what this is, it is a method of decomposing organic solid waste into humus-like material and turning waste into fertilizer for plants. To do this, fill up a bin with land compost full of worms to digest the trash and do the job for you. Experts suggest that you put African Nightcrawlers as they digest faster compared to normal worms. Once the process is complete, you can now use the finished product in your garden as a fertilizer.

Thermal Treatment

According to a recent study, there is a lot of solid waste that can no longer be recycled. As a solution, some municipalities are using combustion or thermal treatment to solve this issue. It is a burning waste process at a high temperature to reduce the volume of garbage being thrown at landfills by eighty percent, reducing the stress on these lands. Using this method, you can also generate heat, gas and be used to steam for power.

Proper waste management is vital these days, as shown by experts that it impacts our world we are living in today. Going zero waste is hard and almost unrealistic, but there are so many ways to support the cause. This is a collaborative effort, and for us to see the change, we need to be the change as well.
