How to arrange a living room?

Your living room is a space that your home turns around, figuratively speaking. You use it to spend leisure time with your family, entertain your friends and unwind after a stressful day at work. And let’s be honest – you want it to make and impression! Here are some tips to ensure your salon will look simply stunning!

Choose a layout and a focal point

This step should not be skipped, even if you just can’t wait to raid that furniture and home decor store! A layout needs to be right for the size, shape and height of your room. You want to avoid the uneasy, stuffed feeling you get when a room is packed to the brim with furniture.

But in arranging a salon space there’s one rule that’s universal – prioritize the coziness. The space you’ll end with should look inviting, warm and friendly, not official and distant. So it’s best to avoid placing too little pieces of furniture inside or making large gaps between them – you don’t want your salon to feel like a corporate open space. Another way to enhance this cozy look is to choose a comfortable sofa as your focal point.

2 seater sofas with wide armrest and cushions are especially good for that, and the addition of matching chair will be a nice touch. When it comes to layout, you can divide a room into several parts with furniture or organize it symmetricaly. Try to do it in a way that will facilitate the conversation and family time.

Decide on a decorating style

There’s so many styles to choose from in the first place that this task might seem really overwhelming, but it’s critical for the overall look and feel of the place. If you’re inexperienced in the area of interior decor, try not to get carried away and simply buy one unmatched piece of furniture after another.

Of course, if you’re pressed for time, you can safely get some universal pieces, like the modern 2 seater sofas, a small low table or an ornament you’ll love on the mantelpiece. Which style will be the best? It’s always important to make it a family decision, not an individual one.

Sit together one evening with an interior design magazine and circle everything that calls out to you all. You can also use a decorating app or photos from blogs and Pinterest. Most people feel relaxed in bright, open spaces with some splashes of colour, so the Scandinavian style or a rustic decor with a lot of wood should be a good choice.

Not sure what to choose? Make it gradual!

Some people prefer to make a clear-cut plan for their salon and go from there. It’s true that with some good planning your room will be ready to use after a week or so, but what if you’re still undecided on the details? Don’t worry – if you have a sensible layout, the focal point and a few crucial pieces of furniture, it will be enough for now. Unless your goal is to get your salon ready for the photo set in the design magazine, there’s no hurry.

Buy a table, a TV stand, a fabric rug and choose the nicest of the 2 seater sofas you can find. That’s it – your living room became oficially livable. Don’t pressure yourself into adding more stuff than you’re comfortable with, it will be plenty of time for that. Choose wisely, and in a month or too all your decorating job will be over. Now it’s the time for a celebratory party in your new room!
