Here’s how you can make walks more fun for your kids

Walking is great, we all know that. It is a great relaxing activity with the added health benefits. So, you should take your kids with you, right? Well, it’s not that simple. The truth is that a lot of children simply hate walks, which is fully understandable. What we consider a relaxing time of leisure is a boring walk across a park for kids without their precious electronics. Luckily there are plenty of ways to make walking fun and exciting for children as well. Let’s take a look at a few of the most notable ones.

Ensure that your kids don’t get tired:

While you can walk for miles without any issues, your kids most certainly can’t. If they get tired at any point, all of the planned fun activities will not matter to them. You can look into purchasing the Wonderfold stroller wagon for your kids and let them walk only for small durations. Or, if you only have one kid, simply carrying them on your shoulders is an exciting way of eliminating this issue.

Make an artistic map of your journey:

First, plan the route you are going to take beforehand. Then create a cartoon representation of that route and add the landmarks along with this map in roughly the same locations. These landmarks can be anything from a restaurant, store, fountain, pond, or just a nice bench. If you have multiple kids, make copies of this map and hand one to each of your children. This will keep them engaged in the walk as the desire to reach the next marked location will prevent boredom. You can add special rewarding places like an ice-cream shop onto the map to further increase their excitement.

Give them a list of things to collect:

This point is very reminiscent of the last one; you need a goal for kids to enjoy a walk. Another way you can achieve this is by introducing a sort of scavenger hunt. You can give all of your kids a lot of objects, and whoever finds all of them first wins. This gives children the incentive to explore around and make their own adventures. Additionally, this practice also teaches them the importance of healthy competition. The list can include anything local to your route, like flowers or rocks of a particular shape.

Bring snacks with you:

Your kids will definitely be feeling a little hungry midway through the walk, so why not re-energize them with some delicious snacks? These snacks can include potato chips and candies, as well as fresh fruits and homemade sandwiches.

Conclusion:

Walks are a great way of introducing your kids to nature and putting them in the healthy habit of working out, not to mention the bonding opportunities you’ll get. Getting your kids away from their iPads might look daunting at first, but it’s not that difficult. You just need to be a little prepared and open to experimentation, and your kid will ask when the next walk is going to be.
