Everything You Should Know About the Most Used Mattress Types

One of the most critical elements of how well you can sleep in your bed every night is your mattress. It will dictate how comfortable your bed is, how much support it provides and even how warm you are at night. There are several different types of mattresses out there, each which can have a different impact on the sleep you get.

In an effort to help you learn about which mattress best suits your needs, we felt it was a good idea to go over some of the most used and popular options on the market. This article is going to go through everything you should know about the most used mattress types.

Memory Foam

Among the most popular options for mattresses today is memory foam. This type of bed will gradually conform to your body, which makes it ideal for those who sleep on their sides or who value comfort over everything. They are normally quite soft, but some can often have medium levels of firmness as well. These beds often have low motion transfer, too.

Because there are different compositions and types of foam being used, one foam mattress can differ wildly from another. So be sure to read up on what has gone into the construction of a foam mattress before you purchase one. Innerspring

Innerspring

Despite being around since the late 1800s, innerspring mattresses (albeit much more modern than the original), continue to be a popular choice for new mattress buyers. These mattresses have layers of coils at their core, which are then surrounded by material to give the bed its comfort. There are various different coil types, categories and layouts that different manufacturers will use.

These mattresses generally offer great back support, and can either be very firm, or even a little on the softer side. The more coils in the mattress, generally the better the support will be. These mattresses are normally quite affordable, but will also have a shorter lifespan than other options on the market.

Latex

Latex mattresses are similar to memory foam mattresses, but the type of foam that is used is generally different. Many latex mattresses will use natural materials for the foam. On the other hand, most memory foam mattresses will use synthetic materials.

In most cases, latex is far less dense than other options, and will sleep cooler than memory foam. These mattresses will also have more of a bounce and rebound than standard memory foam. While they are a great option, some people don’t like how they can feel a little bit spongey at times.

Air

Air

When most people think of air mattresses, they think of the portable option you will take camping or blow up in your spare bedroom when a guest stays the night. However, these are becoming a more popular option for people as their full-time bed.

Many air beds feature a large chamber that is surrounded by comfortable material like foam for comfort. These allow you to easily change the firmness of your mattress, by adding or removing air from the chamber. These mattresses are also very easy to move around if need be.

Hybrid

If you can’t quite decide between the two popular options of an innerspring and a memory foam mattress, a hybrid might be right for you. It contains both springs and foam in different layers. It provides a softer experience than most innersprings, without having to deal with the potential “sinking in” feeling of foam.

They can also offer decent pressure point relief, while still remaining supportive. Temperature regulation is also impressive on these, and they can keep you cooler than memory foam. While they offer a ton of benefits, their cost is often a bit higher as they are often seen as the best of both worlds when it comes to
