7 Surefire Ways to Cozy Up Your Home

Winter is coming, and there’s no better way to spend that time than cozying up with a good book and a delicious cup of hot chocolate, but this can’t happen if your house is not cozy enough in the first place. Fortunately, it doesn’t take much to make your space more comfortable and inviting for the upcoming winter. With the following seven steps, your home will be warm and ready for winter in no time.

1.  Change Your Bedding

While it’s great to use cotton and linen during summer, you’ll soon find out that these won’t make for a warm and cozy bed in winter. Thus, you need to think of swapping those with sheets that are warm and comfortable, like jersey or flannel sheets, for example. You must also throw in as many pillows, blankets, or quilts over the foot of the bed as you can. Make sure to choose materials that are both soft and thick to keep you warm on the coldest nights. When choosing colors, take into account that they should go along with the color scheme of your bedroom.

2.  Consider a New Window Treatment

There is no better way to spruce up your house than with a good window treatment. If you have linen curtains, consider replacing them with velvet drapes or any type of heavy curtains with enhanced thermal lining. If you think that these options are likely to make your room seem smaller, you can install  Venetian blinds instead. This classic style of blinds may not seem appropriate for winter, but their strong aluminium slats will offer strong insulation when they’re closed properly. You can also find them in a wide range of colors that will definitely complement the rest of your decor.

3.  Install Softer Lighting

Surprisingly, the lighting can have a significant effect on the ambiance of the room and its inhabitants. During Winter, it can be tempting to go to bed early as it grows darker outside, but you can resist that urge by replacing harsh overhead lighting with dim, warm-toned LED light, which will provide a cozy, candle-like glow to the room. Naturally, warmer lights will make you feel more comfortable and promote relaxation, as warm lights are associated with warm temperatures, whereas cooler lights are associated with energy, which will prompt us to work. This can negatively interfere with our inner clock.

4.   Add  Layers and Layers of Pillows

If you ask someone what’s the first thing they imagine when thinking about a comfortable home, they’d probably tell you something along the lines of “lots of pillows and blankets.” Throwing pillows and blankets of all shapes and sizes on your furniture will make your space much more inviting to your guests. So, make sure to choose a set of blankets and pillows of different vibrant colors to liven up space.

5.  Choose a Different Color Scheme

Color can have an astonishingly inviting effect and a welcoming atmosphere. When choosing a new color scheme for your room, make sure to use a color that will increase warmth. It doesn’t matter if you’re moving to a new home or thinking about redecorating, as you can easily change the color scheme of your room by purchasing paint cans at any nearby store and painting your walls.

6.  Give Your Bathroom a Makeover

It’s easy to get caught up with making your living space livelier and more welcoming, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget about making your bathroom as cozier as it could get. If you’re having guests, you’ll need to ensure that your bathroom is in tip-top shape both for their and your usage. Make sure that there’s enough soap, toilet paper, and clean towels. Don’t forget about scented candles and warm, dim lighting.

7.  Go Green

Adding a natural charm to your house can increase comfort and coziness. Make sure to integrate plants into your décor. For example, adding leafy plants and fragrant flowers both in your kitchen and living room will have a pleasant effect in these spaces. If you don’t know which type to use in which room, you can always experiment with different types of plants and switch them once you find the one that will be most suitable for your room. However, you have to ensure that there’s enough sunlight to reach your plants.

With these seven tips in mind, you can transform your house into a comfortable space for the winter. Before you start making any changes to your living space, be sure to declutter first because clutter will distract your eyes from seeing other elements in the room. You should also choose designs and styles based on your own personal preferences. While it’s easy to mimic home décor ideas that you find online, your home should match your personality and unique style.
