5 Fun Pool Games You Can Play with Kids

Swimming pool games are fun and different from playground sports. If you are planning a great weekend with your kids, without visiting a water park or luxury resort, then your swimming pool in the backyard is a great spot.

It’s time to uncover the patio enclosures and let the sunshine on the pristine water to get a closer look at the swimming pool. Refill it with water if needed, and do the regular chemical balance check apart from other things you think are necessary before diving into the pool.

Volleyball

When it comes to water games, volleyball is a great game for large groups. 

How to play:

Volleyball

  • Install a net along the two opposite poles of the pool.
  • Divide the team into two; minimum 4 players in each team 
  • Start throwing the ball from one side to the other
  • The team which misses the ball the least number of times wins the game

Treasure hunt

Yet another interesting game that most adults and even kids have played once in their lifetime, but if it’s in the swimming pool, the fun is doubled.  Use coins or any other items as the treasure. 

How to play:

  • Throw dozens of coins in the pool 
  • Instruct the kids to form a team of 3 or 4 and find the sunken treasure. 
  • The team that collects the maximum coins wins the game 

Chicken fight

Also known as the shoulder wars, both adults and kids can participate in the game.

  • Two teams are formed with one member sitting on the back of the other teammate. 
  • Each team aims to knock down the team member (chicken) sitting on the shoulders. 
  • The team standing last wins the game. 

Ping-pong balls

Popular among kids of all ages, this game is commonly played at birthday parties and other fun weekends.

How to play:

  • Throw 10-15 odd ping pong balls into the pool.
  • Instruct kids to catch maximum balls.  
  • Preferably, run a timer. 
  • Whoever brings more balls, wins

Shark and the Minnow

The is yet another great swimming pool game for kids.  

How to play:

  • A kid or even an adult ( if adults want to be a part of the game) play a shark swimming in the middle of the pool. 
  • Kids who remain untagged till the end wins; after multiple rounds if you have a small group of kids.

There is a lot of uncontrollable laughter, giggles, and screams when you have pool games; time worth spending with your kids when you have time. But that doesn’t not come at the cost of their safety. Use safety gear where necessary and never leave your kids unattended if in case they want to play alone.
